The city in a nutshell:
Nha Trang is a coastal city in Central Vietnam, and it’s more a package holiday destination than a city full of sights of attractions. Nha Trang is my least favorite in Vietnam, because there isn’t much to do and it’s overrun by hordes of drunk Russians.
Where to stay:
The closer to the beach the better.
The Good:
Say what you want, but the long beach strip in Nha Trang is definitely nice. Beach lovers can have a few good days in the city.
Nha Trang also has a few attractions, however, it’s not the best city for cultural sightseeing but more for fun activities. Visitors can do water-sports or go to Vinpearl, a water park and amusement park on the neighboring island Hòn Tre Island.
Nightlife in Nha Trang is not bad. You have definitely more options here than in Hoi An or Hanoi, as there are a few good bars and nightclubs in the city.
Like everywhere in Vietnam, Nha Trang is a budget-friendly destination. 5 star hotels are easily affordable and food as well as drinks don’t cost a fortune.
The Bad & The Ugly:
Apart from the nice beach, Nha Trang doesn’t have many interesting things to offer. The city itself is rather ugly and doesn’t have many sights.
That is not the biggest issue though. More than 20 cities in Russia offer direct flights to Nha Trang, which makes the city a popular holiday destinations for the Russians. Unfortunately, I am not talking about the young Dostojevskis but about hordes of loud and aggressive people who can be very annoying. A city is only as good as the people in it. And Nha Trang seems to have the worst breed of tourists. This is definitely the biggest minus of the city.
Moreover, petty crime is omnipresent. That doesn’t mean that travelers should fear their lives and limbes, but theft and robberies do happen.
